Chief Communications Officer

As the Chief Communications Officer, Ms. Hagenbaugh leads a wide range of initiatives, including media relations, marketing, digital media, member engagement, and integrated campaigns. The Forum’s communications team champions the vital role of America’s largest banks in the lives of households, businesses, and communities, and supports the entire organization’s advocacy for policies that enable these banks to fulfill that role throughout the country.  

Ms. Hagenbaugh joined the Forum in February 2018 and built the organization’s communications program as part of its relaunch. She serves as an on-the-record spokesperson, develops strategic communications priorities, and leads campaigns to advance key priorities, including capital reform.

Previously, Ms. Hagenbaugh was Deputy to the Chairman for Communications at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In that role she served as the agency’s chief spokesperson, advised the chairman and other Board members and senior staff on communications matters, and led a 14-member team that executed the FDIC’s external and internal communications activities.

Ms. Hagenbaugh also served as a senior media relations specialist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. There, she was the head spokesperson on bank supervision and regulatory matters, including the Federal Reserve’s annual stress tests and regulatory reform.

She began her career in financial journalism, reporting for 14 years for USA Today and Reuters. She covered a range of topics, including the U.S. economy, the Federal Reserve, and agriculture and co-led USA Today’s coverage of the 2007-2009 financial crisis. She was named an “Enterprise All Star” by USA Today for economics coverage in 2004.   

Ms. Hagenbaugh is active in Women in Housing and Finance. She has served on the board of the WHF Foundation and currently supports programming and communications for the organization. She is a graduate of the Medill School at Northwestern University, where she received a degree in journalism.
