Mark Oesterle
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
Mark Oesterle leads the Forum’s engagement with policymakers and stakeholders to advance policies that enable America’s largest financial institutions to drive economic growth and prosperity.
Prior to joining the Forum, Oesterle served as Executive Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Truist Financial Corporation where he helped pass bipartisan legislation that significantly improved several bank regulatory requirements. He was also involved in facilitating completion of the merger that led to the creation of Truist. Immediately before joining Truist, Oesterle practiced law at an international firm. Prior to that, he served as the Chief Counsel and Deputy Chief of the Senate Banking Committee where he was involved in the passage of numerous laws covering key topics such as deposit insurance, credit cards, the fair credit reporting act, and credit rating agencies, served as the point on congressional investigations and was one of the principal staff leaders during the financial crisis and the legislative response thereto. His duties on the Committee also involved oversight of the nominations and confirmation of heads and members of all the major financial regulatory bodies including the FRB, OCC, SEC, FDIC, and various positions in the Department of the Treasury.
Oesterle received his JD from the National Law Center, George Washington University and his BA from Fordham University.
Mark lives in Washington DC with his wife, two sons and two loving but maniacal dogs.
